Pachira aquatica available in Thailand and Laos

For a long time I did not know the proper name Pachira aquatica, money tree, Malabar chestnut, French Peanut, Guiana chestnut for those trees growing in my Thai and Lao garden. I had first seen that fast growing Pachira aquatica tree in Caracas,and called mine at Discovery Garden Pattaya and Nong Khai “Caracas nut”. Only when I showed pictures of Pachira aquatica on my Facebook account a reader in Iran could identify that interesting tree.

Discovery Garden: Thai baobab trees slowly come of age

Only two years ago we could plant twelve baobab trees at Discovery Garden Pattaya. After one year we had to replace three. Now we had to replace another one about two weeks ago. The difference in size is startling. It makes a huge difference whether you keep a baobab tree in a container or plant it into the ground. Baobabs take off as soon as their mighty roots can properly expand in the ground.

About cloves and nutmeg grown in Thailand, Laos

Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) are the dried aromatic flower buds used in Western and Thai as well as Lao cuisine. Originally they came from the Maluku Islands in Indonesia but are nowadays also grown in Thailand, Laos and other tropical countries. Few Thais and foreigners have ever seen strawberry guava trees (Psidium cattleyanum) nor tasted the delicious little red fruits. At Discovery Garden Pattaya and Nong Khai we have planted several cherry guava (another name) trees that bear a lot of fruits. Making chocolate from Thai cocoa

Visit our “Chocolate Academy” and learn how you can make your first home made chocolate from fresh Thai cocoa. At Discovery Garden in Pattaya we not only grow Thai cocoa seedlings, we also ferment cocoa and make a basic homemade chocolate. It is easy, if you know how to do it.
